What is Lumiart?

“Lumiart” is the brand name for Aica Kogyo’s line of high-performance film products.

 

To maximize the performance of advanced UV-curable resins, Aica Kogyo developed optimal coating techniques tailored to each resin type. This high-performance film is manufactured by perfectly optimizing factors such as the base film, coating thickness, and UV exposure conditions.

 

It is versatile and can be utilized in a wide variety of applications—not only for automotive interiors and exteriors but also for large displays, smartphones, tablet surfaces, and internal touch sensor films.

Depending on the curvature and design of the parts, various vacuum or pressure lamination methods can be selected, such as the Film Insert Method or the TOM (Three-dimensional Overlay Method).

Use Cases

Case 01: “We want to stop using harmful spray paint.”

Due to negative impacts on the workplace environment and rising CO₂ emission concerns, there is a growing trend to phase out spray painting. Previously, however, there were no viable alternatives to spray paint for 3D-shaped components. Our 3D decorative hard coat film provides both “high elongation” and “excellent hardness,” allowing it to flawlessly adhere to complex 3D contours while offering durability comparable to spray coatings—all through a significantly greener process.

Case 02: “The defect rate (yield) in our molding process is not improving.”

“After-cure” products, which require UV exposure post-molding, have an uncured hard coat layer during the molding process. This makes them highly susceptible to deformation, and dust or debris can easily get trapped on the surface, leading to lower product yields. Since our products are shipped fully Pre-cured, the hard coat layer is incredibly stable. This ensures easier handling during production, dramatically lowers the defect rate, and boosts overall product yield.

A. We offer thicknesses ranging from 75 to 500 microns (μm) to suit various applications. Custom thicknesses are also available upon customer request.

A. At present, separating and recycling the film is difficult. However, technology aimed at facilitating easy disassembly and recycling is actively under development as part of a joint industry-academia-government project led by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) in Japan.
